Procedural Reasoning in Constraint Satisfaction

چکیده
For many constraint satisfaction problems, there are well known, fast algorithms and functions that solve parts of the problem. Using these methods directly to solve the sub-problems signiicantly speeds up the solving process. Unfortunately, doing this has usually required the solver to be changed, or the correctness criteria to be reexamined. We describe a general mechanism to use procedures with almost any search engine, such that it is easy to add any procedures without changing the engine. Furthermore, the framework is formally deened, which allows us to prove conditions that are suucient to guarantee systematicity and completeness for search engines using procedures.

Visualization for Structured Constraint Satisfaction Problems
Constraint satisfaction problems are mathematical models of real-world problems. In contrast to randomly generated artificial problems, real-world problems usually have nonrandom structure. Knowledge about that structure, when identified in advance, can make search to find solutions more effective. This paper introduces DrawCSP, a visualization program that can show both the original and the di...
متن کاملConfirming the QSR Promise
Within the qualitative spatial reasoning community it has been a widely accepted commonplace that reasoning in qualitative constraint calculi outperforms reasoning in other more general and expressive formalisms. To check the correctness of this assumption we conducted some empirical case studies in which we compared the performance of a qualitative constraint solver with different automated re...
متن کاملApplying Local Search to Temporal Reasoning
Local search techniques have attracted considerable interest in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community since the development of GSAT [9] and the min-conflicts heuristic [5] for solving large propositional satisfiability (SAT) problems and binary Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs) respectively. Newer SAT techniques, such as the Discrete Langrangian Method (DLM) [10], have significantly ...
متن کاملReasoning with preferences over temporal, uncertain, and conditional statements
In this thesis we consider reasoning with preferences in a number of different AI problems. We start with a specific area as, temporal reasoning, for which there is specialized reasoning machinery. In particular, we consider quantitative temporal constraints and we add preferences in such a context. We discuss the complexity for solving temporal constraint satisfaction problems with preferences...
